As you read these "Imagine" pages, you will see this plan allows us to address contemporary mission issues such as how to invite our neighbors to join us in worship, education, and mission. This plan will allow us the venue in which we can present the hospitality of the church in a host of ways present to us right now.

Our plan includes both architectural and financial plans, described below. Click on this rendering above to see a larger image of proposed construction. Preliminary designs include a new gymnasium, kitchen, classrooms, and fellowship hall. Read further below regarding concurrent renovations to Cottrell Hall and replacement of the East Wing.

With repairs to the old facility and with the new expanded building, Southminster will have more resources to share the love of Jesus Christ with others. Christ-centered ministries that will bring parents and children together are needed for young families in the Brookside area, as well as educational/ biblical programs for all people to find meaning in their lives and relevance for their faith.

This new Family / Community Center will provide us with a context in which we can bring families together for fellowship, education, and mission that will add a major dimension to our outreach.

Therefore, Southminster is committed over the next three years to:

  • Focusing staff and financial resources to create ministries that will reach out to the residents and patrons of Brookside

  • Continuing our tradition of support for community and global mission.

  • Building a multi-purpose/multi-use facility equipped with the new technology needed for programs and activities for current members, and to reach out in mission to the surrounding community of children, teens, young adults, older adults and seniors.

The building plan calls for the construction of a Multi-Purpose Family / Community Center. In addition, renovation of Cottrell Hall (aka: Children’s Education Building) will include:

  • Central heat & air

  • A sloped roof

  • Technological updates, including wiring for modern

  • Media access

The construction will replace the East Wing of the present building. The preliminary design includes remodeling much of the existing building, and construction of the new gymnasium, kitchen, classrooms and fellowship hall. As you can see in the architect's rendering above, much of the East Wing beyond the current Bride's Room will be removed.

 The Financial Plan

By mid-January 2006, Southminster had already received a $1.5 million gift, in addition to $750,000 matching funds. The breakdown is as follows:

  • Projected cost:  $3,700,000

  • Initial donation:  $1,500,000

  • Matching funds:  $750,000

  • Fundraising effort: $1,650,000

The hope of the building committee is that more money will be raised since the initial cost estimate was done in January 2005.

The financial seeds already planted offer great potential for Southminster to blossom in almost unimaginable ways!
