Dear Fellow Travelers,
Southminster
has been on a spiritual journey for well over 60 years,
devoting its life energy to the Brookside community and to
the larger community of Tulsa. Throughout these 60 years,
this congregation has responded to the changing context of
ministry in creative and exciting ways.
Southminster
now faces one of the greatest changes in the context for
Christian ministry, and also faces one of its greatest
challenges to respond both faithfully and creatively.
"This will be the most inviting construction project in our
history."
I cannot
begin to tell you how excited I am about this campaign. When
I came to Southminster in September 2004, this project was
not even on our radar screen. When the amazing gifts
presented themselves, I spent considerable time thinking and
praying about what all this might mean for all of us. It was
time well spent. I have come to the realization that this
building effort, this act of imagining a new future, is
where God has led us both.
Imagine that we are a new church start, and we have the
opportunity to build a facility for our time and place. We
have the opportunity to put in place a facility that will
embody our commitment to do ministry here in ways that
address the rapidly and breathtaking changes going on around
us. What an opportunity!
We are
envisioning together, imagining as God’s people a facility
that will open our doors to young families, youth, and the
Brookside community with opportunities to engage them in
conversation about faith through the creative use of
recreation, education, and mission that only this kind of
multi-purpose building can do. We will continue to engage
our seniors with a facility that will allow them to have a
spacious, inviting, and, well-constructed place to exercise,
to fellowship, and to receive health care.
"We are building for the next generation of
Southminster so that our tradition of mission and ministry
can continue in new and exciting ways."
This will be
the most inviting construction project in our history. It is
a mission commitment to our community and to the future of
Southminster as the heart of Brookside. We are imagining
together a space where all of our neighbors can gather, from
the very youngest to the oldest. We are envisioning a place
where we can play, discuss pressing issues, and meet in
fellowship in a building designed for these purposes.
This project
is the most ambitious one in our history, but also the most
other centered in that same history. We are building for the
next generation of Southminster so that our tradition of
mission and ministry can continue in new and exciting ways.
What an
opportunity to build for the future of our church and our
community. What an opportunity to participate in a vision
that looks beyond what we can see and do, and takes us to a
place that we can only imagine.
If you have any questions about
the nature or purpose of this stewardship campaign, please
feel free to contact me and I will happily discuss with you
and, if necessary, direct you to the leadership team member
most qualified to visit further. You can reach me at the
